I can't believe this is one of the only good drawings of king sombra as a human i've found. i am very glad it was made so he isn't completely trashed by the representations i saw searching deviantart.... brrrr......
I could not imagine a Sombra painting not being awesome. That guy has so much innate awesomeness, it's indestructible. I think he had way too little screen time. When he was defeated, I missed him. Like: What?! He's gone already?! But we've barely seen him!
My little druggy, my little druggy, ah ah ah ah. My little druggy, I used to wonder what cocaine could be, my little druggy, until you all shared its magic with me.(I can't be stuffed typing this, when I saw meth, I had to type this)
you know, even though he had the least screen time of all the villains, the pressure, and the constant battle against time made it feel like there was so much more to lose, the need to succeed was way higher and the stakes WAY higher than with any other villains, it had me on edge through the entire two episodes, and thats why I think he IS the best villain.
I've read a fanfic where Sombra's a lot more chatty than in the episode. Except his language consists of grunts and growls. English (or Equuish) is his second language. Knowing that makes him seem far more intelligent.
This version is surprisingly good considering what the source material is, but it still is Sombra. The character is inherently dull.
In your rendition, Sombra looks like an actual person with an actual expression on his face and an aura of confidence. But the design flaws of the original are still visible; particularly the terrible color scheme that border OC levels. Nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised by the result, particularly by the composition, the use of color and the actual rendition of his face and outfit and the background.
The most visible flaw is that his design has nothing to do with "crystals". Every villain so far represented his element in flesh to some point.
Why isn't he a corrupted Crystal Pony? If dark magic turns crystals black then why not ponies made of crystals? That would make a cliché backstory with sense. (I like this idea for some reason, I think I'll draw it.)
You bring up a good point. Sombra, from what I gathered, was a rogue crystal pony that went mad with power, which is nowhere to be found in his character design. So many interesting things they could have done with that, but now we're stuck with this generic OC-type shroud of a villain.
I mean, I wasn't too impressed by Crysalis when I first saw her, but her design wins hands down compared to Sombra. Discord and Nightmare Moon are still top tier, although Discord wins additional points for actually being clever.
